General Order No. 2 March 11th, A.D. 2020

Members of the Grand Army of the Cussewago:

It is with deep regret that I must notify you that I am cancelling our campaign for 2020. As you are all aware, the Corona virus, covid 19, is spreading rapidly throughout the U.S., to include Northern Virginia. Dr. Jim Ballou, who is our own infectious disease expert, and I have been following the course of covid 19 every day. Although we had hoped a week ago that it would still be safe to conduct this year’s campaign, by today it had become clear that the virus is spreading too rapidly for us to conduct the campaign safely and that it would be the better part of valor for us to cancel the campaign for this year. As our good friend Denny Frasche pointed out, we are a largely “a group of old geezers”. And unfortunately, it is us old geezers that are most at risk of developing serious illness and even death from covid 19.

After talking with Rob Freis and Jim Ballou, our campaign directors for the Bristoe Station – Mine Run Campaign for 2020, they have graciously agreed to conduct the Bristoe Station – Mine Run Campaign in 2021. The watchword will be “Mine Run in 21”.

I will cancel the hospitality suite and the banquet at the Best Western Motel. I would appreciate it if each of you would cancel your own reservations at the hotel. That way it is more likely that your credit cards will not be charged for a one-night stay.

If anyone needs a letter from me to an airline stating the reason for our cancellation, please let me know and I will be glad to furnish that letter.

Although I really wanted to tramp the battlefields with each of you again this year, I want even more for you to be healthy and safe. And so, my friends, to our next campaign, “Mine Run in 21”.

Your Obedient Servant,
Michael J. Brennan, M.D.
Surgeon, A.O.C.
