The Grand Army finally reconvened for a campaign after 3 years of inaction due to COVID-19. The venue was Gettysburg PA and the concentration was day 1 of the 1863 Gettysburg battle. The campaign was lead by Robert Freis. Hal Nelson imparted his vast knowledge throughout the weekend and contributions were made by many others including Geoff Irani, Jim Ballou, Pat Curtin, Ben Brockenbrough and Denny Frasche. Mike Brennan did his usual masterful job leading the GAC with assistance of Howard Nestlerode.
The GAC headquartered at the Days Inn where the banquet and raffle were also held. At the Banquet introductions were made, belt buckles were awarded and reminiscences were made of the Franklin campaign by Rick Caniglia as well as the Rogers relatives of Tom Shirley at Cold Harbor.
On the battle field many stands were made with highlights being the visit to the Seminary including access to the copula, a walk on newly acquired ground (golf course) following Archer, huddling under the protection of the porch roof at the Tollhouse, the perspective from Oak Hill and Cemetery Ridge. The campaign concluded with a visit to the grave of founder Jay Luvaas in the cemetery on Cemetery Ridge.
The group agreed to campaign again but the venue is yet to be determined due to uncertainty around road closures at Gettysburg.
